If there were a gold medal for cluelessness, German figure skater Nicole Schott may well have won it.
Schott, who was not one of the elite skaters in the hunt for a medal, skated her short program to music from the Holocaust movie Schindler's List. Social media reaction was swift. Here are some highlights:
Maybe don't skate to the theme from Schindler's List if you're from Germany. It's just a little bit #Awkward.German figure skater, chooses to do her free skate to the Schindler's List theme song. You just cannot draw it up any worse. Face planting on your first move and laying there for the reminder of your time would've been better. Good lord.Just tuned into Olympic figure skating and the German figure skater is skating to the theme song from ... Schindler’s List. No joke. Call me crazy but that doesn’t seem right. No matter how it is skated and after all these years, I still have a problem with a non #Jewish athlete, representing Germany, skating to #SchindlersList.
It turns out she's not the first skater -- and not even the first German skater -- to use that particular score. Katarina Witt skated to it in 1993, and Russian champ Yulia Lipnitskaya used it at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. (USA Today)
