HUNGER COALITION SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR SECOND FOOD PACKING DAY TUPELO – The Tupelo/Lee County Hunger Coalition recently launched the Summer Backpack Program, an initiative to provide food boxes to over 800 food-insecure children in the Tupelo, Lee County and Baldwyn school districts this summer.
The Hunger Coalition hosted a packing day at the BancorpSouth Arena on May 24, and over 300 volunteers turned out to pack boxes full of kid-friendly snacks and easy-toprepare meals for students from kindergarten through rising seventh-graders. The Hunger Coalition is turning to the community again to ask for volunteers for a second food-packing day to prepare the boxes needed to finish the summer.
The second Summer Backpack Program packing day will be Saturday, June 16 at the BancorpSouth Arena. About 250 volunteers are needed to work for four hours, beginning at 8 am.
All volunteers need to pre-register through Volunteer Northeast Mississippi by visiting www.unitedwaynems.org/summerbackpackvolunteer
