Reba McEntire shared a 1970s throwback clip as she took part in a growing, nostalgic social media trend on Wednesday (December 10).
McEntire, 70, offered a word of advice to her younger self as part of the reflective trend. She wrote in text that appears over the clip, “in your 20s, someone will ask you to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. It’s very important that you say yes.”
“Well technically I was 19… and it was 51 years ago today!” McEntire added in her caption on Instagram. The compilation starts with a glimpse of McEntire performing in the 70s, and continues with other moments throughout her career.
The legendary country star recently celebrated the anniversary of her first record deal, which she signed on November 11, 1975. She’s since released more than two dozen studio albums and sold more than 58 million records globally, per a press release issued last month. MCA CEO Mike Harris said in a statement in the release that “Reba’s impact on country music is immeasurable. For fifty years, she’s set the standard for artistry, authenticity, and work ethic — inspiring generations of artists and fans alike. It’s an incredible honor for all of us at MCA to celebrate this milestone with her and continue the journey with one of the most defining voices in our genre.”
McEntire said at that time, when she got a sweet surprise on the set of Happy’s Place, that she’s “so thankful for everyone who’s been a part of these last 50 years. I love you with all my heart!”
