5 ACM Award Moments Not Seen On TV

ACM Awards Keith Urban may have won the top prize of the night, but Reba McEntire might have said it best when she jokingly dubbed the night, “Dan and Shay’s Excellent Adventure.” The duo scored big in Vegas, taking three trophies; Duo of the Year, as well as, Single and Song of the Year both for “Tequila.”

Too bad Shay Mooney missed most of the show. Shay joked in his acceptance speech backstage, “I’m sitting behind Charles Kelley and can’t see anything.”

Thomas Rhett was also full of quips backstage and offered to give the duo his Male Artist of the Year award to round out their awards and make it four.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Kacey Musgraves who won Female Artist of the Year, breaking Miranda Lambert’s nine-year streak. Kacey also took Album of the Year for ‘Golden Hour.’ Backstage, Kacey shared that she hopes to live a long life and that her retirement goals currently include a rhinestone oxygen tank.

Jason Aldean tips his hat to George Strait by saying, “He's the reason I wear the hat and the boots, you know what I mean? He's the guy that I think we all sort of want to have a career like that. Everybody in country music respects him and what he's done.”

Other winners at the 54th Annual ACM Awards include Chris Janson’s “Drunk Girl” for Video of the Year, Dierks Bentley and Brothers Osborne’s Burning Man took Musical Event of the Year and Old Dominion is the reigning Group of the Year winners.
