Amy Grant Undergoes Surgery To Correct Heart Condition

On Wednesday (June 3), contemporary Christian singer, Amy Grant, underwent open heart surgery to fix a heart condition she's had since birth, her publicist revealed.

Doctors discovered Grant had a heart condition called partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) during a routine checkup. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a birth defect of the heart in which some of the veins bringing blood back from the lungs don’t connect to the left atrium like usual. Instead, some of them go to the heart by way of an abnormal (anomalous) connection.

On Wednesday (June 3), a message from 'Team Amy' was shared on her Facebook page asking others for prayer. "With all that is going on in our world that needs our collective prayer, please also join us in praying for Amy this week as she has heart surgery to correct her PAPVR condition," the post reads.

Grant first opened up about her condition with the public in February. She revealed that although her PAPVR has just recently been discovered, she's had it since she was born.

"As always, I am feeling great, but the battery of tests he put me through show that I have had a heart condition since birth," Grant said in a tweet on February 12. "The first good news is that I am completely asymptomatic. The second good news is that it’s fixable, so instead of concerts and camping trips this summer, I am going to take care of my heart."

Grant says she initially went in for a checkup because of her family history of heart disease. Her father, Dr. Burton Grant, died in 2018 at the age of 86 and her mother, Gloria Dean Napier Grant, died in 2011 at the age of 80.

Grant is married to country singer, Vince Gill, a six-time Grammy winner known for hits like "Baby, Baby," "Every Heartbeat," and "That's What Love Is For."
